The Dawson Creek Child & Youth Mental Health and Substance Use (CYMHSU) LAT started in December 2015 after the local Practice Support Coach, Cindy Kadziolka put our name forward for this initiative and Dr. Meyer our Physician Champion agreed to sign on to our group.  We currently have four acting co-chairs, Isaac Hernandez, Louise Rogers, Kate Meir and Chery Hendy.   We currently have over 45 members on our team! This group falls under the umbrella of the province wide CYMHSU Collaborative for children and their families in BC.

It was identified that many family and youth experiencing mental health and/or substance use issues, had difficulty navigating the system of care which is often fragmented, confusing, and uncoordinated. The CYMHSU Collaborative was formed to address these issues and receives funding from the Shared Care Committee, a partnership of Doctors of BC and the Ministry of Health. Three ministries including the Ministry of Education, Health, and Children and Family Development have signed a tripartite agreement supporting the work of this initiative.
